2022 UVU Conference on Addiction

Addiction Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery
Hybrid Online And Sorensen Center
Mar. 18, 2022

The UVU College of Humanities and Social Sciences, in conjunction with its sponsors and supporters, is pleased to announce the 2022 UVU Conference on Addiction. The single day conference is planned for Friday, March 18th, 2022. The conference will be held this year as a ‘hybrid’ event. This means that participants and presenters can choose to join us in person or via our virtual portal (on-line).

Our opening Keynote will be offered by Kristina Wandzilak & Constance Curry. As presented in their brutally honest and gritty story, The Lost Years; mother and daughter will share Kristina’s dramatic descent into addiction and her mother’s desperate attempt to save her.

We are honored to have William Stauffer, LCSW, CADC, CCS - Executive Director of Pennsylvania Recovery Organization Alliance - with us as the afternoon plenary presenter. His presentation, NRAM at Twenty Years – Listening to the Voices Who Helped Make History, is based on historic documents and personal interviews with people who helped organize and attended the historic recovery summit held in Saint Paul Minnesota in October 2001. The summit has widely been considered the start of the New Recovery Advocacy Movement (NRAM). The movement has begun to elevate voices of the recovery and to change public perceptions about addiction.

Our closing keynote presentation will be offered by international best-selling writer, Koren Zailckas. Koren is the author of the iconic memoir SMASHED, Story of a Drunken Girlhood, which chronicles her story.

In addition, a broad selection of concurrent break-out sessions on varied topics of interest to the addiction community will be presented. Participants will enjoy multiple sessions meeting the interests/needs of those seeking professional information on substance abuse disorders (as well as compulsive behavioral addiction), educational perspectives regarding prevention and treatment, and information for families and loved ones experiencing the challenges of addiction.

We will also welcome live and virtual exhibit booths sponsored by various service and support vendors from throughout the state, as well as graduate student poster presentations on current research and findings.
