It is important to train more females to support the needs of a national and global economy workforce. Females must recognize the toxicity of subtle messaging and persist in careers where they may be underrepresented. Self-efficacy along with cultural expectations do not always align with personal educational and career goals. Women can learn to focus their influence by understanding how cultural environment contributes to their experience.
Dr. Susan L. Thackeray is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the College of Engineering and Technology.She has over twenty years of demonstrated administrative leadership in industry and education that includes international and domestic higher education instructional design, distance learning development, usability testing, workforce development, and team organization/training. Dr. Thackeray is noted nationally for innovative career pathway models to prepare and transition students efficiently into the workforce and her expertise in STEM Education. She has received multiple awards for innovation including the Utah Women Tech Award for Education Excellence. Susan holds a Bachelor of Science in digital media from Utah Valley University, Master of Education in instruction altechnology from Utah State University, Doctor of Education from Northeastern University, Boston, and a fellowship with Stanford University. Dr. Thackeray has a research focus of credit for prior learning, competency-based education and underserved populations in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
WE LIFT is a UVU Entrepreneurship Institute program to increase the number and success of women entrepreneurs through a women-in-business ecosystem that becomes a gathering place where women can lift themselves, their families, their businesses, their communities, and their society. We collaborate with other organizations that support women entrepreneurs, develop funding sources to achieve long-term sustainability, include students in developing and implementing our progression, and involve, recognize, and support all women in the Utah entrepreneurship community.
