Description of event:
The Center of Social Impact is hosting an in-person, multi-day learning activity and competition called The Breakdown over spring break. The event will challenge you to break down a social problem, gain a deeper understanding of it, and work with a team to come up with a strategic solution. Center for Social Impact staff, student fellows, and associates will be present to facilitate and guide you throughout the entire process.
This learning experience will be organized into four social issues tracks: sex trafficking, police brutality, climate change, and public health. Each track will be represented by a team of student participants who will utilize steps of design thinking to help them pitch a solution to a panel of judges on the last day of the event. The winning team will have the privilege of donating event proceeds to a non-profit of their choice that is addressing the social issue they worked through.
Additionally, participants will get to hear from several keynote speakers with expertise regarding the four social issues tracks, and have the opportunity of interviewing special guests who have lived experience with these issues.
Join us in creating a social impact by better understanding some of the most pressing social problems of our time, building your resume, and having the chance to network with other students and educators.
