The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Utah is proud to announce the call for proposals for the Western Conference of the Association for Asian Studies (WCAAS) 2020. The conference will be held on the campus of UVU in the bustling metropolis of Orem, Utah, on October 9-10, 2020. The theme for this year’s WCAAS is “Making Connections in the World”. Asia—the East of the world, has an important position in the world’s culture and civilization, economy and politics, national securities and world peace, and in many other aspects. East or West, being connected is the best. A peaceful and beautiful global world requires connections, communications and mutual understandings of the east and the west regardless of their disparities and differences. We hope that this year’s conference will promote communications and understandings between academics in the East and the West geologically or academically. We hope that in this “polarized” global world Asian studies scholars of all disciplines will be able to interact, communicate and realize that there is much that connects and binds us. We are sure that this will be a most stimulating and productive conference, and we look forward to seeing you here.
