Futurescapes is a project of the Office of New Urban Mechanics at Utah Valley University. It began in 2016, with the leadership of Mary Robinette Kowal, as an effort to realize the future-facing vision of science fiction to imagine future solutions to pressing public problems such as climate change, crime, and accessibility.
Futurescapes trains new generations of speculative fiction authors to respect the social imperative of this literature of ideas, to harness their vision to anticipate future social problems, to fund applied research into innovative approaches to public problems, and connect civic innovators and speculative Imagineers.
UVU looks forward to your participation in the Futurescapes workshop February 16-18. This workshop will offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to all participants. CEUs may meet organizations’ requirements for ongoing professional development. CEUs are not academic credits, and are not applicable to any UVU degrees or credit-based certificates. UVU does not offer a professional certificate in creative writing. We regret any confusion that the Futurescapes web site may have caused.
